The war for Panem reaches the Capitol, and Katniss Everdeen stops being a symbol long enough to become a soldier. Nominally embedded with a propaganda unit — the so-called Star Squad, cameras rolling — she goes off-book to hunt President Snow through streets rigged with Gamemaker pods, turning the city itself into one last arena. Francis Lawrence closes the series on its bleakest register: a siege picture about the cost of revolution, where the most dangerous question isn't whether Snow falls but who is positioned to replace him.

- Opened at number one in Australia with A$7.13 million from 624 cinemas.
- Finished as the 10th highest-grossing film in Australia for calendar 2015 with A$18.89 million; lifetime AU gross A$19.59 million.
- The Australian Classification Board passed it M with consumer advice 'Mature themes, violence and horror sequence' — a notably softer local rating than the franchise's grimmest instalment might suggest.
- Two Australians in the principal cast: Melbourne-born Liam Hemsworth as Gale Hawthorne and Canberra-born Stef Dawson as Annie Cresta.
- Roadshow Films handled Australian distribution across the entire Hunger Games run, under a Lionsgate output deal extended in 2014.

How it was made
Production notes
- Both Mockingjay films were shot back-to-back as a single continuous production, from 23 September 2013 in Atlanta to 20 June 2014 in Berlin.
- Atlanta and wider Georgia formed the production's home base, with the Swan House at the Atlanta History Center used as the exterior of President Snow's mansion.
- The Berlin block supplied most of the Capitol: the disused Tempelhof Airport became the District 2 base, Krampnitz Kaserne near Potsdam played the bombed-out apartment blocks, and the car park beneath the Internationales Congress Centrum became the subway sequence. Interiors were mounted at Studio Babelsberg.
- French locations rounded out the Capitol: Ricardo Bofill's Les Espaces d'Abraxas at Noisy-le-Grand for the black-goo pod plaza, and the Château de Voisins at Louveciennes for Snow's mansion interiors.
- Philip Seymour Hoffman died with roughly a week of his work still to shoot. Francis Lawrence refused digital recreation, telling press that 'to try to fake a Philip Seymour Hoffman performance would have been catastrophic'. Plutarch's closing message to Katniss became a letter read aloud by Haymitch.
- Made for a US$160 million production budget with a further reported US$55 million in promotional spend.
- The world premiere was held on 4 November 2015 at the Sony Center in Berlin, ahead of a day-and-date rollout across 87 territories.
