A Sunrise on the Reaping garden has appeared in Alexandria

Bianca Nguyen·13 April 2026

Something wild and overgrown has appeared in the garden at The Grounds of Alexandria: a mockingjay and a snake, carved at enormous scale, facing each other across a bank of flowers under the vine arbour.

It’s the Sunrise on the Reaping key art made physical — and Sydney is far from the only city that woke up to one.

What’s actually there

Roadshow has built the wreath into the arbour itself rather than dropping a standee into a courtyard, which is why it works. The mockingjay perches at one end with its wings spread across the beams; the snake rears to meet it from the other; and the whole confrontation sits above a dense bank of blooms in the palette straight off the poster — coral, violet, deep blue, with butterflies threaded through it.

Get close and the detail holds up. The carving is scaled and textured like the gilded creatures on the key art, right down to the seams of red running through the snake’s body — the ember glow the poster renders as lava.

The venue choice is about as knowing as Roadshow could have managed in this city. The Grounds is already a flower-forward destination; putting a Panem wreath into a space where people photograph the horticulture anyway means the campaign doesn’t have to ask for attention. It gets it by being in the right place.

This is happening in more than thirty countries

The Sydney garden is one node in a genuinely enormous piece of coordinated marketing. Lionsgate developed the concept with Blacklist Creative, working with ARIAN GmbH, into a toolkit that individual territories could adapt — everything from flat-pack standees to fully realised three-dimensional sculptures, depending on the site.

Gardens have now been logged in London, Milan, Bangkok, Toronto, Antwerp, across the Netherlands and in Los Angeles, with more than thirty countries participating. The core design holds everywhere; the execution shifts with local flowers, local materials and local space. It’s why the fan trackers currently running on Instagram and TikTok are worth following — no two of these are quite the same, and people are finding new ones daily.

What it’s teasing

Flowers, in this franchise, are never just decoration. The wreath is the visual language of Sunrise on the Reaping — the beauty that sits on top of the machinery — and a campaign that leads with blooms rather than with faces is telling you something about the film’s register.

More practically: Roadshow has said the trailer drops tomorrow. Studios do not commission physical installations in thirty-plus countries to promote a release date they announced eighteen months ago. Everything about the cadence here — the gardens, the merchandise drop, the franchise look-backs, the bouquets that have gone out to press with a line about the gardens nearly being in bloom — has been building to this week.

Go and look at it

You have until Friday 17 April. Roadshow has been explicit that the installation comes down at the end of the week, and these activations don’t get extensions.

The Grounds is at 7A Huntley Street, Alexandria, and the garden is free to walk through. If you get a photo, we’d like to see it — send it through and we’ll add the best ones here.
