We're giving away one of 350 copies of the Tim Palen Ultimate Edition
Some things are too beautiful to keep in a box. One copy of Tim Palen: Photographs from The Hunger Games — the Ultimate Edition, hand-bound in leather, signed, one of only 350 in the world — is going to one of you. One hundred days from today, Sunrise on the Reaping opens in Australian cinemas, a day ahead of the United States, and it felt like the right moment to let one go.
Assouline published the Ultimate Edition in December 2015, in collaboration with Lionsgate, as the collector’s tier of Palen’s Hunger Games monograph. Three hundred and fifty copies: hand-bound leather, 108 photographs across 144 pages, eleven of them never published anywhere else. Each is signed by Palen and housed in a clamshell case with a signed archival print of the cover image. It has been out of print for years. It is not a book you find; it is a book you wait for.

The scale is the part photographs undersell. The volume measures 39 by 47 centimetres and weighs nine kilograms — closer to furniture than to a book. Inside are Palen’s portraits of the cast made across the four original films, including thirty-three shot for Mockingjay – Part 2, with colour plates hand-tipped onto art paper. Palen was Lionsgate’s marketing chief for the entire run; the reason the first film’s campaign looked like nothing else in 2012 is largely him. This is that work, printed the way he wanted it printed.
How to enter
Entry is free and happens on Instagram:
- Follow @hungergamesau
- Tag the person you’d volunteer for in the comments
- Hit the ➤ send arrow and share the reel back to us at @hungergamesau, so we can verify your entry
All three steps are needed — an entry we can’t verify is an entry we can’t draw.
Tagging more people gets you more entries. Every separate comment tagging a different person counts as another entry in the draw, so tag as many as you like. Several names in the one comment still counts once — it’s one comment, one entry.
Bonus entry: join our mailing list and you get one more entry on top. Put your Instagram handle in the optional field on the form — that’s how we match your bonus entry to your comments. One email, no spam, and you’ll hear about AU session times and ticket on-sales before we post them anywhere else.
The details
The giveaway is open worldwide, excluding a small number of countries we can’t lawfully or practically ship to. The full list is in the terms. We pay the postage wherever you are; any customs duty or import tax your own country charges is yours to cover.
Entries close at 5pm AEST on Friday 11 September 2026. One winner is drawn at random and announced here and on our channels within seven days of the close.
We contact winners by direct message from @hungergamesau and from nowhere else. You’ll have 48 hours to accept, or we may have to draw a new winner — so if you’ve entered, keep an eye on your message requests, because that’s where Instagram files DMs from accounts you don’t follow. We will never ask a winner for payment, card details, or a link to click in order to claim. Any account that does is an impersonator; report it and tell us.
Entrants under 18 need a parent or guardian’s permission, and the prize is awarded to that parent or guardian on the winner’s behalf. Full terms and conditions are here.
Why this one
We’ve run this site since 2011 and covered the franchise through the whole original run. The three copies came out of that period and they’ve been in storage for a decade. A book that exists in 350 copies is worth more in the hands of someone who’ll actually open it than it is as a third copy of something we already have twice.
This prize is ours. It isn’t supplied, sponsored or endorsed by Instagram, Lionsgate, Roadshow Films, Scholastic or Assouline, and nothing about this giveaway involves them.
Good luck, tributes. May the odds be ever in your favour.
